The twelve energy channels are like running rivers in the water, and the eight extraordinary vessels(Qi Jing Ba Mai) are like lakes of different sizes and heights, responsible for regulating and replenishing the qi system. Li Shizhen, a medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty, also pointed out in his examination of the eight extraordinary vessels (Qi Jing Ba Mai) that "ordinary people have these eight extraordinary vessels, and they are all closed by Yin Shen and partially opened. However, gods can open them with Yang Qi, so they can achieve Tao. The eight extraordinary vessels are the innate roots."
